DP World has awarded the EDCS group a contract for the rehabilitation of seven operational areas of Terminal 1 of the port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The project covers a total area of 90,000 m2 and construction has already begun.
The contract provides for the design and construction of seven spaces dedicated to the processing and storage of goods, as well as the development of access and associated service infrastructure.
According to EDECS, the project also includes facilities for digital container fleet management systems and cargo handling equipment.
A fire protection network must also cover the entire port, including certain areas beyond the original scope of the contract. A high mast lighting system is also provided.
DP World operates Terminal 1 of the port of Dar es Salaam, which deals with containers, general goods and bulk. In July 2026, the terminal handled 46,582 20-foot equivalents (TEUs), the highest monthly volume reported by EDECS, compared to 13,779 TEUs in May 2024.
The port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's main port, handles over 30 million tons of goods per year and provides more than 90% of the country's international maritime trade.
Located on the Tanzanian coast, the port also serves several landlocked countries in East and Central Africa. According to information published on 19 August 2026, the project is part of the programme of modernization of the facilities operated by DP World at Terminal 1.
Martin Jacob, Managing Director of DP World Dar es Salaam, said that this work is aimed, among other things, at improving commercial connectivity and logistics efficiency between the East and Central African markets.
