Received in Dakar on October 8, 2026 by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Diego Aponte, president of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) group, has mentioned the development of the port and logistics infrastructures of Senegal. The group expressed its willingness to strengthen its presence in the country and to accompany the implementation of the National Transformation Agenda Senegal 2050.
The development of Senegal's port and logistics infrastructure was at the centre of the meeting between the president Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Diego Aponte, CEO of the MSC Group, One of the world's leading operators in container shipping.
Trade also focused on the country's maritime potential and its integration into major international trade routes. According to the Senegalese Presidency, this cooperation is part of the national strategy to better exploit Senegal's geographical position on the Atlantic facade.
Following the discussions, MSC expressed its willingness to strengthen its presence in Senegal and to propose solutions tailored to the country's needs. Diego Aponte also reaffirmed the group's readiness to support the implementation of the National Transformation Agenda Senegal 2050.

However, no specific investment, implementation schedule or specific port plan was announced in the information communicated at the end of the encounter.
For the Senegalese authorities, the maritime sector occupies a place in the objectives of economic sovereignty, attraction of productive investment and job creation.
In particular, the development of port infrastructure will improve the country's capacity to participate in regional and international trade. The issue also concerns the articulation between ports, logistics platforms and corridors that ensure the transport of goods.
The meeting took place as Senegal sought to increase its participation in international logistics chains. The achievement of this ambition will depend in particular on the projects undertaken in the port and logistics infrastructures as well as the modalities of cooperation with international maritime operators. At this stage, the Presidency reported a willingness to work together, without detailing the operational measures envisaged with MSC.
