Seventeen tire portals (RTGs) manufactured in China are being transported to the port of Walvis Bay, Namibia. The operation, carried out by three COSCO SHIPPING vessels Specialized Carriers, aims to strengthen the handling capacity of this strategic port on the Atlantic facade of Southern Africa.

From the Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) production base in Nantong, China, 17 RTG (Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes) portals were loaded to Walvis Bay Harbour.

The operation simultaneously mobilised three COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers specialised vessels — DA XIANG, DA XIN and DA AN — in order to comply with the delivery schedule and technical requirements relating to the transport of these large port equipment.

According to information provided by COSCO SHIPPING, the teams coordinated ship assignment, port operations and loading, including during night operations, in order to maintain the planned schedule.

The lifting capacity and wide decks of the three vessels allowed all 17 porticoes to board, which met the technical checks carried out by a third body from the first inspection.

Upon arrival in Namibia, these equipment will be installed at the port of Walvis Bay in order to increase container handling capacity and improve the fluidity of port operations.

Located on the Atlantic coast of Southern Africa, the port is a logistical entry point serving Namibia as well as several landlocked countries in the region, including Zambia, Botswana and parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
