Guinea: Wabtec signs over $700 million contract for TransGuinean locomotives

For several years, Wabtec will provide maintenance and operational support to the TransGuinean locomotive fleet. The contract brings the cumulative value of the agreements with the TransGuinean Company since 2024 to over $1.2 billion.

Wabtec announced on September 21 the signing of a service contract of more than $700 million with the TransGuinean Company (CTG) to accompany the operation of its new locomotive fleet.

The agreement concerns the ES43AC locomotives of the Evolution Series range, intended in particular for the carriage of iron ore from the Simandou project. With the purchase of locomotives in 2024, the cumulative value of contracts between the two partners now exceeds $1.2 billion.

The multi-year contract includes programmed and unscheduled maintenance, revision of parts and components, management of spare parts stocks and logistical support.

Wabtec also provides for training facilities, remote diagnostic tools and actions to develop local skills. The services must accompany the availability of the locomotive fleet, whose engines develop 4,500 horsepower and are designed to operate under demanding operating conditions.

The TransGuinean railway network extends over 600 kilometres and is to link the mining areas of Simandou to the port of Morebaya on the Guinean coast. It is also intended for the transport of passengers and non-mining goods.

The operation of this corridor is thus based on coordination between mining activities, rail transport and port operations, with significant maintenance and availability requirements for rolling stock.

The development of rail services also accompanies the gradual construction of the infrastructure of the TransGuinean. In April 2026, the TransGuinean Company announced the start of construction of the first railway stations, with 10 installations planned in various prefectures.

Some will be for travellers and others for freight. The new service contract signed with Wabtec must therefore cover the maintenance and technical support of the locomotive fleet to be used on this network.
