On 16 September 2026, a consortium of Chinese companies led by SPIC and Chinalco presented Guinea's Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah with a mining corridor project linking the area of Santou with the maritime facade of Cape Verga. The programme includes a railway line of approximately 160 kilometres and a deep water port. The announced investment exceeds $3 billion.
The railway link must ensure the evacuation of the mining production from Santou to the future port site of Cape Verga. The port would be designed to accommodate vessels with a capacity of up to 200,000 tonnes.
According to the data presented by the consortium, the railway and port system could evacuate up to 77 million tonnes of bauxite per year.
The project thus combines the main links necessary for the transport of mining production: a railway infrastructure to connect the operating areas, port facilities for loading and exporting, as well as the equipment necessary for the circulation of volumes to the maritime facade.
Representatives of the consortium also presented the various technical and financial components envisaged to the Guinean authorities.
At this stage, the Great Corridor of Guinea is at the stage of presentation and discussions with the authorities. No start-up or start-up date is announced in the items presented.
The project is part of the development of the infrastructure needed to evacuate bauxite production, while Guinea continues to expand its mining and transport capacity.
