The FedEx hub in Dubai World Central, which includes the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa, has obtained IATA CEIV Pharma certification for the handling and transport of temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products.

FedEx announced on October 6th that it will receive CEIV Pharma certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for its Dubai World Central (DWC) hub in the United Arab Emirates.

This certification follows an assessment of more than 280 criteria related to business processes, storage facilities, equipment, quality management systems and compliance with regulatory requirements. This includes the ability of facilities to maintain the integrity of pharmaceutical products throughout their transport.

The DWC site covers 57,000 m2 and includes automated equipment, security controls and dangerous goods facilities. FedEx also indicates that the hub includes a 170 m2 controlled storage area for sensitive health products.

The company is also using its FedEx Surround surveillance solution, based on artificial intelligence, with FedEx SenseAware sensor technology to monitor the location, temperature and environmental conditions of shipments.

This certification brings to 30 the number of CEIV Pharma certifications held by FedEx on its air hubs and cargo processing facilities worldwide, according to the company.

The IATA CEIV Pharma device aims to assess the capabilities of actors involved in the pharmaceutical supply chain, particularly for goods requiring temperature control and specific handling procedures.

For the DWC hub, certification concerns a facility serving the markets of the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa.

FedEx presents this certification as part of its development in health product logistics. The company estimates that the growth of the pharmaceutical market in the United Arab Emirates is accompanied by increased demand for cold chain solutions adapted to sensitive products.

The group thus indicated its desire to expand its network of capabilities dedicated to the pharmaceutical sector by relying on its monitoring facilities and technologies in several regions of the world.
