The Danish maritime group A.P. Moller-Maersk plans to re-establish all its navigation services via the Suez Canal by March 2027. This perspective was raised during an exchange with the Suez Canal Authority, while the number of transits of vessels affiliated to the group increased over the first nine months of 2026.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Danish maritime group A.P. Moller-Maersk discussed, on Tuesday 20 October 2026, the modalities for an increased return of the carrier's services on this seaway. The meeting was held by video conference between SCA President Ossama Rabie and Maersk Operations Director Rabab Boulos.

According to a statement by the Egyptian authority, the latter expressed the hope that all the services of the group would return by March 2027. This is a forecast, not a definitive recovery schedule.

The figures provided by the SCA show 276 transits of vessels affiliated with Maersk between January and September 2026, for a cumulative net tonnage of 23.3 million tonnes. Over the same period in 2025, the authority had recorded 146 transits, representing 7 million net tonnes.

This trend reflects an increase in the group's traffic on the Egyptian seaway, although the number of transits alone does not allow for the measurement of the share of scheduled services already restored.

During the exchange, Maersk officials indicated that the group was continuing to revise its navigation programmes to allow more services to travel through the canal in the coming months.

Rabab Boulos also praised the cooperation with the Egyptian authority. Both parties agreed to continue their discussions on the conditions for such return.

The president of the SCA, for his part, highlighted the economic benefits of the Suez road, especially for large container carriers. According to him, geopolitical developments and their effects on fuel prices and freight rates underline the interest of this route in relation to Africa's bypass through the Cape of Good Hope.
