The Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works (APIX) signed a partnership agreement with Lufthansa Group on Monday, 7 September in Dakar. The agreement includes the promotion of Senegal to European markets and the development of economic exchanges, in a context where air connectivity is an important factor for business travel and access to international markets.
The agreement was signed on the occasion of a working visit to Dakar by Julia Hillenbrand, Vice President for Sales in Europe and Africa of Lufthansa Group. For APIX, this cooperation should in particular make it possible to better present Senegalese investment and tourism opportunities to European markets.
The Agency will also be able to organise events to promote Senegal's destination by building on the air group network.
The aviation dimension is a central part of the partnership. Brussels Airlines, a member of the Lufthansa Group, is serving Dakar with up to five flights per week.
These links contribute to the connections between Senegal and European markets, facilitating the travel of travellers, businesses and investors.
For Julia Hillenbrand, air transport is not limited to passenger travel and can also contribute to the development of economic activities by linking companies to international markets and opportunities.
This cooperation comes as Senegal seeks to develop its exchanges with external markets and to make better use of its air infrastructure and connections. For APIX, the issue also concerns the identification and development of new tourist areas.
The Agency's Director General, Bakary Séga Bathily, also highlighted the constraints associated with hosting major religious events, which generate significant mobility and transport needs.
The partnership with Lufthansa Group is thus part of an approach combining air connectivity, international mobility and economic development.
