Dredging work for the future deep water port of Ndayane, Senegal, was completed in July 2026, 13 months before the original deadline. In a press release issued on 27 July, DP World stated that this step should allow for faster construction of docks and other marine infrastructure, while the port is still being announced for 2028.
According to information provided by DP World, work was carried out on a five-kilometre access channel dredged to 20 metres deep, a 600-metre manoeuvring basin and an 875-metre mooring area.
The latter shall accommodate two Triple E-class containers. The site required the use of two high-capacity suction dredges.
More than 95% of the extracted materials consisted of rocks, some with a compression resistance of more than 100 megapascals. DP World reported that the operations were carried out without the use of explosions, notably through disaggregating disc dredging techniques.

The group also noted that 1,043 people are currently working on the site, while the next steps will be on marine and civil engineering.
Located about 50 kilometres from Dakar, the future port of Ndayane must strengthen Senegal's port capacity and offer a new deep water infrastructure for containerized traffic.
The project, whose investment announced by DP World amounts to $1.2 billion, is presented by the operator as its largest private investment in Senegal.
Its commissioning remains scheduled for 2028. The group also reports having invested approximately 340 million dollars since 2008 in the modernization and extension of the container terminal of the port of Dakar.
