Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the American air manufacturer Boeing signed an agreement in Marrakech on 8 October to renovate the cabins of seven Boeing 787-8 long-haul aircraft. The operation includes replacement of seats, modernisation of entertainment systems and installation of an internet connection on board.
Signed on the margins of the 8th edition of Marrakech Airshow, organised from 7 to 10 October, the agreement concerns seven Boeing 787-8 acquired new by the Moroccan company between 2015 and 2018.
The agreement was initialled by Fahad Al Mheiri, Boeing Regional Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, and Naual Aït Hammou, Director of the AMR Air Operations Centre.
The programme aims to modernize the interior spaces of the aircraft and bring their level of comfort closer to that of the long-haul aircraft recently integrated or being acquired by the company.
According to the information provided by RAM, the work will include seat replacement, modernisation of entertainment systems on board and deployment of a Starlink satellite Internet connection. The seven aircraft each have 274 seats.
With the Boeing 787-9, they provide long-haul routes from Casablanca to several international destinations, including New York, Los Angeles, São Paulo and Beijing. The renovation must therefore concern aircraft already operating on the company's intercontinental network.
This operation comes as RAM continues to develop its fleet. Naoual Aït Hammou indicated that it had 71 aircraft and was expected to reach 73 by the end of 2026. The company's strategy for 2037 is to increase the fleet to 200 new aircraft.
The renovation programme is also part of Morocco's preparations for the 2030 World Cup. Boeing, for its part, reaffirmed its commitment to continue its collaboration with the national company, with which the manufacturer has a long-standing partnership.
