The convoy arrived in Bamako on 3 October after a night escort from the Malian Armed Forces. The cargoes were then taken over by Customs, the Directorate-General for Trade, Consumer and Competition and the National Police for transport to depots and service stations.

According to the Directorate-General for Trade, Consumption and Competition (DGCC), the convoy of more than 643 tankers arrived in Bamako on Saturday, 3 October 2026 at about 7 a.m. The vehicles had been under the protection of the Malian Armed Forces during the night.

Upon their arrival in the capital, Customs, the DGCC and the National Police took over the responsibility for the products and their orientation to oil depots and gas stations.

The DGCC did not specify the total volume carried by this convoy or the origin of the products or their distribution between diesel and petrol. This comes within the framework of the mechanism set up to secure the supply of petroleum products to Mali.

A landlocked country, Mali depends in particular on road corridors linking Bamako and ports in the subregion. A previous convoy of 980 tankers had also arrived in the capital on 6 September under military escort.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mali had received 57.99 million litres of diesel fuel between 14 and 20 September, transported by approximately 1,273 tanks.

As at 20 September, stocks in the deposits of the Malian Petroleum Products Office (OMAP), Sanke and Star Oil amounted to 10.17 million litres of diesel and 10.09 million litres of petrol. The Ministry had also reported the ongoing reception of 1,278 tanks in Bamako.

The management of the convoys involves several public services, from their arrival in the capital to their transport to storage facilities and distribution points.

DGCC indicated that Customs, the National Police and its own services remain engaged to monitor products. These operations are part of the system for securing the flow of petroleum products to the Malian market.
