The Akurenam-Kogo road, 116 km long, was inaugurated on 26 September 2026 in Equatorial Guinea. The infrastructure is a link to the Nsok-Akurenam-Minang corridor, which is expected to link the Equatorial Guinea and Gabon road networks more closely.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Saturday 26 September in Akurenam, in the presence of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, according to information published by the Equatorial Guinea Presidency.
The work, initiated in May 2022 and carried out by China Road, covered a 116 km route between the interior of the Centro Sur region and the Litoral coastal area.
According to the information provided, the project represents an announced investment of FRF 198 billion, or approximately $344 million. Beyond its national service function, the road constitutes a section of the Nsok-Akurenam-Minang corridor, which is one of the integration projects of the CEMAC Regional Economic Programme.
The BDEAC, cited as a funder, presents this infrastructure as an element to improve land connections between Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
However, this section is only part of the proposed link between the two countries. On the Gabonese side, the Kougouleu-Medouneu-Akurenam project provides about 168 km of road to extend this connection.
The various projects associated with the corridor also include logistical infrastructure, including a dry port and a special economic zone, to accompany the movement of goods.
For regional exchanges, the issue remains therefore linked to the actual continuity of the route. The improvement of the Akurenam-Kogo road will have to be supplemented by the progress of the Gabonese project, but also by the fluidity of border crossings and the connection to the main economic and port centres.
These conditions will determine the extent to which this new route can contribute to reducing transport times and costs between Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
