The Emirati air cargo company SolitAir has launched a new route between Accra, Ghana, and Dubai's Al Maktoum International Airport. This service should increase the capacity for air freight transport between West Africa and the United Arab Emirates, particularly for agricultural products and high-value goods.
SolitAir has started its cargo operations at the Accra International Airport, bringing the number of destinations served by the company in Africa to 21 in 17 countries. The connection between Accra and Al Maktoum International Airport covers approximately 6,250 kilometres.
It complements the services recently opened by the company to Nigeria and is part of the expansion of its freight network on the continent.
The new service includes goods flows linked to Ghanaian exports. Among the products identified are gold, food and perishable products. According to SolitAir, Accra Airport handles between 40,000 and 50,000 tons of freight per year.
The company plans to meet the demand for air freight between Ghana, the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East markets.
Based at Al Maktoum International Airport, SolitAir currently operates seven Boeing 737-800BCF, each with a cargo capacity of 20 tonnes.
Its global network now has over 60 destinations in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The company plans to reach a fleet of 20 aircraft by the end of 2027.
