On 21 August, the Port of Pointe-Noire and the Namibian Ports Authority signed a memorandum of understanding to develop their cooperation. The agreement includes the sharing of expertise and the exchange of good practices in port management.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the Congo-Namibia Business Forum, held in Pointe-Noire in the presence of the Congolese Foreign Minister, Constant-Serge Bounda, and his Namibian counterpart, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.
The meeting brought together institutional representatives and economic operators from both countries around several sectors, including infrastructure, energy, hydrocarbons, training, logistics and trade.
The memorandum concluded between the Pointe-Noire Autonomous Port (APN) and the Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), which manages the port of Walvis Bay, provides a framework for cooperation between the two port authorities.
According to the information provided at the meeting, this cooperation should promote the sharing of experiences, expertise and good practices in the management and operation of port infrastructure, as well as the identification of joint actions.
Discussions between the two countries also focused on the development of economic relations and partnerships between their private sectors. In particular, discussions were held with Congolese refining companies on training, skills building and sharing expertise in the hydrocarbon sector.
The Congolese and Namibian authorities are pursuing these various lines of cooperation in their desire to develop bilateral and intra-African exchanges.
