Congo Terminal has received 22 new port tractors at the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, to strengthen its handling capabilities. This acquisition takes place as the operator prepares the commissioning of the East Pole, scheduled for the first half of 2027.
Congo Terminal has received on 22 July 2026 twenty-two new port tractors intended to strengthen its fleet rolling at the Autonomous Port of Pointe-Noire. According to the company's information, such equipment should facilitate the transfer of containers between docks and storage fleets and help reduce the processing times of ships.
This acquisition occurs in a context of progress of the traffic processed by the terminal. Volumes of containers increased from 200,000 TEUs in 2009 to over 1.2 million TEUs in 2025, according to data reported by Congo Terminal.
The operator also reported crossing the threshold of one million TEUs handled annually since 2022. This evolution accompanies the growth of the autonomous port of Pointe-Noire, which is one of the main maritime gateways to Central Africa.
The enhancement of the equipment also takes place before the planned start-up of the Môle Est project in the first half of 2027.
According to Congo Terminal, this extension must increase the annual capacity of the terminal to 2.5 million DEUs. The project is intended to support the increase in container volumes and the evolution of the needs of the Pointe-Noire port platform.
Congo Terminal also indicates that the arrival of these new equipment should generate labour requirements in the conduct of the equipment, their maintenance and the activities of harbour operations.
As a subsidiary of AGL, the company has been operating since 2009 the handling of container and ro-ro vessels at the Port Autonome de Pointe-Noire as part of a public-private partnership with the Congolese State.
