The construction and asphalting of 255 km of roads was launched on 5 October 2026 in Malanje Province, Angola. The project, valued at more than 211 billion kwanzas, or about 230 million dollars, is to link five municipalities and facilitate access to agricultural areas and to the future memorial of the sovereigns of the kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba.
The Angolan government launched this project after a signing ceremony for the materials for the construction, organized in the municipality of Cahombo. The network must link Quéssua, Kiwaba Nzoji, Cahombo, Bange ya Ngola and Marimba, serving notably the Muculu-a-Ngola region.
The project consists of several sections, some of which will be asphalted for the first time. According to the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Habitat, the work will involve domestic and foreign companies and should generate 1,010 direct jobs.
The implementation schedule is set at 24 months. According to the Minister of Public Works, Carlos Alberto dos Santos, the shortest sections must be completed within one year, while the longest sections may take up to two years, taking into account the interruptions due to the rainy season.
Beyond improving travel between the localities concerned, the authorities expect this infrastructure to facilitate the movement of agricultural products to markets. The province has agricultural, livestock and forestry activities, as well as tourism potential.
This work is part of Angola's policy of developing transport infrastructure and economic diversification. In Malanje province, the improvement of the internal road network must reduce the difficulties of access to certain production areas and facilitate trade between municipalities.
However, the effects on transport costs, crop flow and tourism will depend on the completion of the work within the announced deadlines and the maintenance of the roads after commissioning.
